Join us for American Bear Awakening in April 2009

Another big party is on the horizon for Albuquerque. American Bear Awakening promises to be bigger this year than ever!

We're working with the New Mexico Gay Rodeo Association to really bring out the flavor of the Southwest and the fun of the rodeo. Starting in 2009, the gay rodeo finals will be hosted right here in Albuquerque.

We're celebrating this move with a "Cowbear Up!" themed ABA event that will feature rodeos, barbecues, cowboys, and fun. Join us from April 2, 2009 to April 5 as the bears and the NMGRA show the city a whooping good time.

Past ABA events have tended to be smaller and more intimate. By starting earlier, we're hoping for a slightly larger group of bears (and cowboys). You know what they say - the more the merrier. The run will feature LA bear comic Bobaloo hosting the Rise 'N Shine Bear contest. Get ready to have fun!

ABA meetings are once a month starting in September, and will include members of the NMGRA. We'll have our guys going to their meetings, as well. Look for the meeting reminder sent from our Yahoo! Group, and don't forget to join if you haven't already.

You've reached the den of the Sandia Bears.

The Sandia Bears are a group of gay men self-identifying as bears or bear admirers. We are a charitable group, and hold fundraisers the second Sunday of every month at Sidewinders Bar at 8900 Central Avenue, Albuquerque, New Mexico. We are a relatively new club, having just started in 2007, and we welcome any gay men who wish to find out what we are all about. We are affiliated with our brother club, the Bears of Mañana, and we go on outings and such with them as they also help us out.
